UofA U Commons Refresh
Filled with light that shifts with the seasons, the space encourages peers to explore their relationships with each other, the world, and their surroundings.
University Commons at the University of Alberta has been reimagined as a welcoming front door and shared heart of campus life. Once a fragmented, faculty‑specific building, the renewed space now supports connection, transparency, and inclusivity through light‑filled interiors and flexible, unprogrammed gathering areas. A central atrium anchors the building, drawing daylight deep into the space while organizing movement across multiple levels. Warm materials, thoughtful spatial planning, and seasonally inspired “neighbourhoods” create a dynamic environment where students, faculty, staff, and visitors can gather, learn, and belong.
