Foundry
Abbotsford, BC - Completed May 2018
Foundry offers young people ages 12-24 health and wellness resources, services and supports. This is done online and through integrated service centres throughout BC. The healthcare team at COI Vancouver was awarded the contract to provide the furniture for new Foundry facilities throughout British Columbia in 2016. COI Vancouver completed the new Foundry offices in North Vancouver in 2017 and most recently update the Granville Street Foundry in 2018 and created the new Foundry offices in Abbotsford in 2018.
One of the key areas for Foundry’s facilities is creating a warm, inviting, and “cool” waiting area where the kids can “hang out”. Foundry wanted furniture that would last, take abuse from teenagers, meet infection control, meet safety standards, and yet be cool and funky. They want the kids to feel like Foundry is a good space to hang out. The other key area at Foundry is the “talking rooms”, of which there are many. Mental health support is a key area of Foundry’s services. They wanted a variety of “funky” furniture that would be suitable for counselors and therapists to talk to kids and their parents. Again the furniture needed to be comfortable for long periods of time, durable, cleanable, safe, and “cool” looking. We provided a range of furniture options in fun vinyl colours and patterns to complete the many “talking” rooms.
Key furniture in the project: Herman Miller – Swoop Plywood, Swoop Lounge, Eames Molded Plastic, Sayl chairs, Canvas workstations; Keilhauer – Doko, Juxta, and Jumble; KI – Sway; and National – Grin and Whimsey.
